Meet Morgan Rysdon, Teacher and Speaker of the Alexander Technique
I got to chat with a remarkable woman, Morgan Rysdon, who has used the Alexander Technique to help overcome multiple traumas in her life.
Morgan was eight years old when she was molested by a caregiver. This was a person entrusted by Morgan’s parents to look after her and her brother. The experience haunted Morgan and she spent years in therapy to try and heal.
As she was still healing from that experience, another trauma hit Morgan unexpectedly. Her brother, a perfectly healthy teenage boy, was struck with meningitis one night on vacation and suddenly died within hours.
As a result, she spiraled into another depression and, unable to cope, she quit therapy. It just wasn’t working for her. And it took a long hard journey to find the right tools to help her heal emotionally.
Discovering The Alexander Technique
When Morgan discovered the Alexander Technique, everything changed for her.
Alexander Technique is a type of exercise that will teach you how to pay attention to your body when you feel stressed out or anxious. It’s a full mindfulness exercise that goes into the physical aspect of knowing and controlling your body better, and also into the mental and emotional realm as well.
A professor in college taught it to her, and when Morgan first tried it, she felt like she could finally breathe again. More than just helping Morgan deal with the physical issues the stress had put on her body (for one, it helped alleviate her poor posture), it helped her relax and come to terms with her emotional mindset.
The Alexander Technique gave Morgan a way back to hearing from her trauma. This life-changing moment is something that Morgan felt deeply she should share with others.
Today, Morgan Rysdon is now an Alexander Technique teacher and speaker. She teaches people how to be more in touch with their physical and mental being. And she helps others seek growth and change through awareness and consciousness.
